WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has unveiled his $1.15 trillion budget, which proposes about $54 billion in cuts to numerous departments such as the Environmental Protection Agency as well as in foreign aid. But it also proposes a $54 billion boost to the U.S. military. Trump says his budget proposal "puts America first."
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — Two federal courts have now blocked President Donald Trump's revised travel ban. A federal judge in Maryland just blocked the executive order this morning. Yesterday, a federal judge in Hawaii blocked the ban, rejecting the government's claims that the revised travel ban is about national security, not discrimination. U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson also said Hawaii would suffer financially if the executive order constricted the flow of students and tourists to the state.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans on the House Budget Committee say they're confident that the GOP replacement for "Obamacare" will be approved. But today's vote could be tight. The panel can't make significant changes but is expected to endorse non-binding, suggested changes to nail down votes. The Republican replacement would eliminate the tax penalty for people who don't buy coverage and the federal subsidies that let millions afford it.
PARIS (AP) — Police in Paris say a letter bomb exploded today at the French office of the International Monetary Fund. One person was slightly injured. Staff members from the IMF office were evacuated and armed military officers and police guarded the area, in a chic district of western Paris. The World Bank office in France is in the same compound. The blast came a day after a package containing low-grade explosives arrived at the German Finance Ministry. An explosives team quickly destroyed that package. Meanwhile, the French government has issued an alert after a reported shooting at high school in southern town of Grasse.
MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A Somali official says pirates who seized an oil tanker have opened fire on naval troops from the semiautonomous state of Puntland, sparking clashes between the two sides. A local government spokesman where the ship is being held says the clashes began after naval forces tried to stop a boat carrying reinforcement pirates to the ship. Pirates seized the ship on Monday, and they're demanding ransom for the crew.
