SALT LAKE CITY — Police are still working to identify a man whose body was found in a storm drain in August and are now turning to the public for help.

The man's badly decomposed body was discovered by employees of the Salt Lake City Water Department who were cleaning a drainage pipe on Aug. 17 at 1320 S. 900 West near the Jordan River.

Salt Lake City police released "scientific-based" sketches Tuesday, detailing what the man's face and head may have looked like before he died.

Several questions about the case remain unanswered, including whether foul play was a factor in his death and whether his body had washed downriver to the location where he was found.

"Once we can get a name to go with him, then we can start looking at some of those other things," said Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking. "If we get the name, it gives us a place to start working from."

The man's approximate age, other than the conclusion of police that he is an adult, is unknown. His race, hair color and eye color are also unknown because of the advanced state of decomposition his body was in when he was found.

"We're working on the DNA ... but it's quite a process to extract the DNA from the body," Wilking said.

Anyone who recognizes the sketches of the man or has other information about the case is asked to call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000. Anonymous tips may be sent to 274637, referring to case number 16-151442. Informants are asked to begin texts with TIPSLCPD.
