WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Law enforcement authorities are accusing a man of starting a fire at an apartment complex in West Valley City and trying to tie his neighbor's door shut to trap him inside.

A record from the Salt Lake County sheriff's office shows authorities arrested the suspect on charges of arson and attempted murder following Friday's fire. No one was injured in the fire.

Authorities say the suspect admitted that he started the fire to try to stop his neighbor from "hurting him." The record shows authorities determined the neighbor didn't pose a threat and had not contacted the suspect the day of the fire.

The suspect is at the Salt Lake County Jail. It wasn't immediately clear when he will make his first court appearance.

Fire crews say the damage was isolated to an apartment.
