UNDATED (AP) — There's been lots of activity in the NFL today as the league's 2017 year officially begins. Among the moves: The Atlanta Falcons agreed to contract extensions with backup quarterback Matt Schaub and defensive tackle Courtney Upshaw; the Kansas City Chiefs declined their option on backup quarterback Nick Foles; Torrey Smith agreed to a three-year deal with Philadelphia; and safety Antoine Bethea (beh-THAY'-uh) agreed to a three-year contract with Arizona.

NEW YORK (AP) — No. 6 North Carolina has reached the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament by beating Miami 78-53. The top-seeded Tar Heels will face either No. 8 Louisville or archrival Duke tomorrow night.

NEW YORK (AP) — No. 2 Villanova cruised past St. John's 108-67 in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden. The Wildcats had six players score in double figures and set team tournament records for points scored and margin of victory. They'll face the winner of the Marquette-Seton Hall game in the semifinals tomorrow.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two people with knowledge of the decision tell The Associated Press that Dawn Staley will be the next U.S. women's basketball Olympic coach. They say Staley will be introduced at a press conference tomorrow in South Carolina. Staley has coached the Gamecocks since 2008, guiding them to a four straight Southeastern Conference regular season titles and a three consecutive SEC Tournament crowns. She helped the U.S. win gold medals as a player in 1996, 2000 and 2004. She also was an assistant coach on the 2008 and 2016 teams that won golds at the Olympics.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The NBA has fined New Orleans Pelicans front-court star DeMarcus Cousins $50,000 for "directing inappropriate language" toward fans during a pair of recent road games. The incidents occurred during the Pelicans' victory over the Lakers in Los Angeles on Sunday and at the end of New Orleans' loss to the Jazz in Utah on Monday night. The Pelicans acquired Cousins in a trade with Sacramento during the All-Star break involving multiple players and draft picks.
