WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats say the health care reform legislation being pushed by Republicans would be a boon for the wealthy. That's because the proposed bill would cut more than 20 taxes enacted under President Barack Obama's heath law. The measure has drawn harsh criticism from conservative groups and congressional budget hawks who say it too closely resembles the current law. Democrats say it will cover far fewer Americans.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Mexican foreign minister says Mexico's government has informed the U.S. Department of Homeland Security of its concern over a proposal to separate immigrant parents from their children in detention. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly has said he's considering the separations as a way to dissuade families from crossing the border with children. Mexico says that could cause "irreversible harm" to many families. Critics in the U.S. say the idea makes no sense and would increase costs.
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Doctors and nurses from a hospital blocks away have provided emergency assistance to passengers on a bus struck by a freight train in Biloxi, Mississippi, today. Officials say four people were killed and 35 were injured. Some victims had to be flown to other hospitals. It took rescuers more than hour to remove passengers because of the severity of the damage. The bus, which was carrying a group from Texas, apparently stopped on the track.
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) —Australian officials and victims' families and friends have gathered in Brisbane, Australia, for a memorial service to mark the third anniversary of Flight 370's disappearance. The Boeing 777 vanished with 239 passengers and crew aboard. Australia, Malaysia and China in January suspended the sonar search for the airliner after a sweep of 46,000 square miles of the Indian Ocean southwest of Australia failed to find any trace.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Seven environmental groups are calling on the Trump administration to immediately shut down an underwater pipeline leaking processed natural gas into Alaska's Cook Inlet. The groups say the leak is creating a low-oxygen dead zone that threatens endangered beluga whales, fish and other wildlife. Hilcorp Alaska estimates up to 310,000 cubic feet per day of gas is leaking from its pipe supplying fuel to four drilling platforms.
