Md Eastern Shore beats NC A&T, heads to MEAC quarterfinal

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Bakari Copeland scored 25 points with nine rebounds, Ryan Andino hit five 3-pointers for 15 points, and Maryland Eastern Shore rallied to beat North Carolina A&T 75-65 in Monday night's opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament.

The fifth-seeded Hawks (14-19) advance to pay No. 4 Hampton (14-15) in Thursday's quarterfinal.

Tyler Jones scored 12 points for the Hawks, who shot 46 percent from the floor and 8 of 22 from behind the arc to the Aggies 42 percent and 6 of 22.

Trailing by four at halftime, the Hawks made 10 of their first 13 shots of the second half and rallied to a 59-45 lead. Andino hit three 3's during the run. The Hawks pulled ahead by as many as 19 and were never threatened the rest of the way.

The Aggies were up by as many as 10 points in the first half and led 38-34 at halftime.

Eliel Gonzalez and James Whitaker scored 13 apiece for the No. 12 seed Aggies (3-29), whose only conference win was a 68-63 decision over North Carolina Central.
