Kempton's 31 lifts Lehigh past Boston U in 2 OT, 91-88

BOSTON (AP) — Tim Kempton scored 31 points, including the tie-breaking 3 pointer with 1:22 to play in the second overtime, and Lehigh made six free throws in the last 23.5 seconds to outlast Boston University 91-88 in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament on Sunday.

Kempton, who had 16 points in regulation and surpassed 2,000 for his career, also had 13 rebounds and a career-high six blocks. Austin Price added 23 and Brandon Alston 18 for the Mountain Hawks (20-11). Third-seeded Lehigh, winner of six straight, plays at Bucknell for the league title on Wednesday.

Kempton, who picked up his fourth foul with more than 14 minutes left in regulation hit his shot from the right corner off a Kyle Leufroy assist to make it 85-82. Leufroy then made consecutive steals he turned into four free throws for an 89-82 lead with 13.8 left.

After an Eric Johnson 3, Alston made two free throws and after Eric Fanning hit a 3 to cut it to 91-88, the Mountain Hawks had a turnover on the inbounds. However, a last-second heave wasn't close.

A Leufroy-to-Kempton layup with 6.7 seconds to go in the first overtime tied the game at 75 and then Kempton blocked a Kyle Foreman layup attempt.

The Terriers rallied from 16 down in the second half and tied the game at 65 when Fanning's bounce pass found Justin Alston inside for a layup with 13.3 to play. Kempton missed a short fadeaway at the buzzer.

Fanning had 22 points with 11 rebounds and Alston 20 points for the second-seeded Terriers (18-14).
