SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Researchers are conducting a $2 million study to help people better understand what leads to northern Utah's winter inversions that create a brown, murky haze of air pollution that engulfs the Salt Lake City metro area. The Deseret News reports that they are using aircraft and advanced instruments to determine what conditions lead to the formation of fine particulate pollution.

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — The University of Utah Seismograph Stations has reported a minor earthquake in the southwestern part of the state. Seismograph Stations officials say a magnitude 3.3 quake occurred shortly after noon Sunday. They say the epicenter of the shock was located in the Cedar Valley, six miles west-southwest of Enoch and about seven miles north-northwest of Cedar City. The earthquake was reported felt in the vicinity of Cedar City. There's no report of any damage or injuries.

MOAB, Utah (AP) — Police in Moab say two teenagers are dead after their vehicle crashed on the way home from a prom. They say the teens were driving home when their car went off the road on La Sal Loop Road. Police say the vehicle rolled multiple times and two of the five teenagers inside were killed. The condition of the remaining three teenagers wasn't immediately released Sunday.

CASTLE VALLEY, Utah (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says a Colorado man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Castle Valley. They say 56-year-old Albert Hughes of Grand Junction was riding his motorcycle along state Route 128 about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when it went off the right side of the road for unknown reasons. Authorities say Hughes was talking to witnesses when he collapsed. Highway Patrol officials say Hughes was unresponsive when medical personnel arrived and was pronounced dead.
