RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — What was a family trip to a cheerleading competition in Riverside, California, has ended in a deadly plane crash. Authorities say a small plane crashed plowed into two houses shortly after takeoff Monday, killing three people and injuring two. A husband, wife and three teenagers were on the plane. No one on the ground was hurt.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Russia has pledged to veto a Western-backed U.N. resolution on Tuesday that would impose sanctions on 21 Syrian individuals, organizations and companies allegedly involved in chemical weapons attacks. The draft Security Council resolution would also ban the supplying of helicopters, which investigators say were used in chemical attacks.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — An activist who will deliver a Democratic response in Spanish to President Donald Trump's first speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday plans to address the crackdown on undocumented immigrants and the need for affordable health care. Astrid Silva was brought into the country illegally as a child. Former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (buh-SHEER') will give the English-language response.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An official with the Jewish Community Center Association of North America is calling on Congress and all elected officials to condemn the recent wave of bomb threats against Jewish community centers and schools. There were threats against 21 facilities on Monday. There have been scores of similar threats this year.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — SpaceX won't put a price tag on it or say whose buying, but the high tech firm says it will fly two people to the moon next year. Founder Elon Musk says two people who know one another approached the company about sending them on a weeklong flight. The mission would not involve a landing. Musk said SpaceX is on track to launch astronauts to the International Space Station in mid-2018. This moon mission would be later.
