Utah Sen. Bob Bennett is putting current economic troubles in more of a historical perspective.

He says it's like we're treading water while swimming to shore. But he thinks this economic downturn will be over in less than a year.

He tells The Deseret News recessions come about every six to 10 years, but this one may be rougher than the one in 2000. Still, it won't be as bad as the recession following the ‘70s.

He should know; he's lived through a lot of economic ups and downs and is a member of both the Senate Banking Committee and Joint Economic Committee.

He blames the housing market for our economic troubles but tells the newspaper this will not be like The Great Depression.
