West Valley police say a shooting victim had been served with divorce papers before he forced his way into a home where his estranged wife was.
Robert Hunter, 50, is now recovering and is expected to live. He was shot in the arm and chest with a shotgun at a house near 6000 West and 3700 South last night.
Cpt. Tom McLachlan says Hunter's estranged wife and 47-year-old Joe McIntosh were inside.
"The evidence shows that Mr. Hunter drove his car to the location where officers found him, walked through a backyard and forcibly broke in," he said.
McLachlan says Hunter was armed with two pistols. His motives are not clear, but police say he had made threats against McIntosh before.
Prosecutors still are screening the case for possible charges.
