CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming Chief Justice E. James Burke says technological issues continue to be an issue for the state's courts.
In the annual state of the judiciary address to lawmakers Wednesday, Burke says many Wyoming courtrooms remain behind the times on technology improvements that would help the courts become more efficient and productive.
In addition, Burke says it's unclear who is responsible for paying for the purchase, installation and maintenance of audio and visual equipment in courtrooms. He suggested it might be a topic worth studying by lawmakers.
Burke also voiced support for legislation to increase court fees, which he says are much lower than other states, to help fund technology improvements. And the chief justice advocated for a pay raise for state circuit judges, who are paid less than district judges.
