LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actress Debbie Reynolds, the star of the 1952 classic "Singin' in the Rain," has died. Reynolds was 84. Her son, Todd Fisher, said Reynolds died today. Her passing came a day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher, died at age 60. Told Fisher says the stress of his sister's death "was too much" for Reynolds." She was also known for her Oscar-nominated role in another musical, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." Her messy divorce from singer Eddie Fisher, who left her for Elizabeth Taylor, made tabloid headlines in the late 1950s.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump says Israel is being treated "very, very unfairly," maintaining that countries that are "horrible places" never get reprimanded. Trump talked to reporters today in what became his longest question-and-answer session since the election. He refused to directly answer a question about whether Israel should stop building settlements, saying he is "very, very strong on Israel." Secretary of State John Kerry today accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of dragging Israel away from democracy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Islamic State commander in Syria has been killed by a coalition airstrike. A senior U.S. defense official says it happened on Monday. Abu Jandal al-Kuwaiti is said to have been a leader in Raqqa. He was killed near a strategically located dam. The area has been the focus of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces battling IS fighters.

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Acknowledging they have learned valuable lessons from this year's terrorist attack in Brussels, authorities said today they are tightening security at the 128th annual Rose Parade with sturdier barricades and more checkpoints to control cars. Police in Pasadena, California, say more than 1,000 police officers, including many in plainclothes, and dozens of bomb-sniffing dogs will work the 5 ½-mile parade route.

DOWNEY, Calif. (AP) — Hundreds of people have lined up for refunds at a Southern California market that sold bad masa, a kind of dough, which spoiled traditional Christmas tamales. People who couldn't get refunds from an Amapola market in Downey earlier this week lined up when the store reopened today. Some customers reported becoming ill after eating tamales made with masa they bought at Amapola markets or threw it out after watching the corn dough turn to goo during cooking.
