ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Rex Ryan after just 31 games and a 15-16 record with the team. The move comes three days after a loss to the Dolphins dropped the Bills to 7-8 and officially eliminated them from playoff contention for the 17th straight season, the NFL's longest active playoff drought. The Bills say offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn will serve as interim head coach this Sunday against the New York Jets.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has undergone surgery to repair his broken right leg suffered in Sunday's victory. Initial estimates are he will miss six to eight weeks, which will cause him to miss the entire postseason. The Raiders will start Matt McGloin as they face the Broncos on Sunday with a chance to wrap up the AFC West and a first-round bye.

CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James is The Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for the second time in three years. James led the Cavaliers to the NBA title, which ended Cleveland's 52-year drought without a championship team. He collected 24 first-place votes to beat out swimmer Michael Phelps and sprinter Usain (yoo-SAYN') Bolt.

UNDATED (AP) — Longtime NFL special teams coach Bruce DeHaven has died at the age of 68 following a battle with prostate cancer. DeHaven's career featured two stints with the Bills, including the team's string of four consecutive AFC titles and six division titles. Steve Tasker became a seven-time Pro Bowler and kicker Steve Christie became Buffalo's leader scorer while playing under DeHaven.

NEW YORK (AP) — The longtime engagement of Knicks president Phil Jackson and Lakers executive Jeanie Buss is over. Jackson cited professional obligations and geographic distance for the breakup, while Buss said dividing her attention between Jackson and the Lakers was unfair to both. Jackson and Buss began dating in 1999 while he coached the Lakers and were engaged before he moved across the country to take the Knicks job in 2014.
