UNDATED (AP) — Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been fined $18,000 by the NFL for wearing unapproved cleats against Detroit, two people familiar with the fine tell The Associated Press. Beckham wore cleats honoring the late broadcaster Craig Sager, who lost his lengthy battle with cancer last week. The people spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because the fine has not been announced publicly.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Duke has suspended starting guard Grayson Allen indefinitely after he tripped an opponent for the third time in the past year. The preseason AP All-American tripped Elon's Steven Santa Ana in the fifth-ranked Blue Devils win last night. Coach Mike Krzyzewski (shuh-SHEF'-skee) says Allen's actions "don't meet the standards of Duke basketball."
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ivan (ee-VAHN') Nova has agreed to a $26 million, three-year contract with the Pirates, a person with knowledge of the situation has told The Associated Press. Nova went 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 11 starts for Pittsburgh after being acquired from the Yankees in an August trade.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Blues have placed forward Paul Stastny on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Stasny had an assist in the win over Dallas last night. He has seven goals and 10 assists in 34 games this season.
PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — Princeton University has canceled the rest of the men's swimming and diving team's season after administrators discovered that members had posted "vulgar and offensive" material on the team's electronic mailing list. The university says the "misogynistic and racist" comments involved the women's swimming and diving team.
