MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A man who spent 16 years as an international fugitive after killing a guest at a New York wedding on Long Island has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison.

Balkumar Singh was sentenced Monday in Nassau County Court. He pleaded guilty last month to murder in the 1999 fatal shooting of 19-year-old Abzal Khan.

Authorities say Singh shot Khan seven times following a dance floor dispute at a wedding hall; scores of guests witnessed Khan's death.

Singh, who had several aliases, traveled to Canada and Guyana before an international manhunt ended in Trinidad in March 2015 with his capture by law enforcement.

He was featured in a 2009 episode of "America's Most Wanted."
