SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — New U.S. Census figures show Utah is the fastest-growing state in the country, leading a cluster of Western states with populations on the upswing despite sluggish national growth. The figures released Tuesday show the state with the country's highest birth rate grew just over 2 percent from July 2015 to July 2016, followed closely by Nevada, Idaho and Florida. Washington, Oregon and Colorado also took top percentage-growth spots.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — When Salt Lake City officials decided on four spots to place new homeless shelters, they rejected seven other sites that included a spot near City Hall and a Mormon church on the city's eastern foothills. The Salt Lake Tribune obtained a list of the sites Salt Lake City officials rejected in their search to replace an overflowing downtown homeless shelter.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal agents have arrested two Utah sisters accused of using their money order businesses in the Salt Lake City area to launder an estimated $1 million for Mexican drug traffickers. The Deseret News reports (http://tinyurl.com/zb9zat8) 41-year-old Rosa Rodriguez and 35-year-old Yadira Rodriguez allegedly concealed the trafficker's identities by falsifying information on the transfers.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A lawyer for a Subway worker cleared of allegations that he drugged a police officer's drink is raising questions about police reliance on a drug-detection test following the release of police documents on the investigation. The Standard-Examiner newspaper in Ogden reports the early results led police to arrest 18-year-old Tanis Ukena in the headline-making case. He was cleared after subsequent tests found no drugs, but said the damage to his reputation lingered.
