WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump's incoming chief of staff says the president-elect isn't ready to accept the assessment of U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 election by hacking the Democratic Party's private communications. Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) tells "Fox News Sunday" that intelligence officials "haven't been totally upfront and transparent" about their findings. He says even if Moscow did interfere, Democrats lost because they're out of touch with voters. His comments come a day before Electoral College members vote to officially make Trump the 45th president of the United States.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — France's U.N. ambassador says the goal of the Syria resolution it's presenting to the Security Council today is to avoid "mass atrocities" in eastern Aleppo following the defeat of rebel forces. It calls for safe evacuations, immediate and unconditional U.N. access to deliver humanitarian aid, and protection of medical facilities and personnel. Russia is proposing an alternate resolution that would require Syrian government approval before the United Nations could deploy any monitors to eastern Aleppo to check on civilians.
CHICAGO (AP) — It's bitterly cold in the northern Plains and Midwest as a fresh surge of arctic air moves in. The National Weather Service says it was 31 below zero last night in Bismarck, North Dakota, a record low for Dec. 17. Linton, North Dakota, was even colder at minus 33 degrees early today. It's also pretty chilly in Chicago, where the Bears are playing the Green Bay Packers. The temperature at the start of the game was 11 degrees, with a minus-4 wind chill.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A nearly four-day ban on drinking the water in Corpus Christi, Texas, has been lifted after test results showed no contamination from a chemical leak. Mayor Dan McQueen says residents can resume using the city's water supply for drinking, bathing and cooking. He says officials will continue to monitor it. The ban was issued late Wednesday out of concern that a leak at an asphalt plant could have contaminated the water supply.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed legislation that bestows one of the nation's highest civilian awards on veterans of the Office of Strategic Services, America's World War Two spy agency. The precursor to the CIA and today's special operations forces ran intelligence networks and resistance operations behind enemy lines in Europe and Asia. The OSS was organized and led by Gen. William Donovan, a Medal of Honor recipient in World War One.
