This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Thirty years ago, Ralph L. Wadsworth wanted to do something that would teach his sons the meaning of hard work, integrity and success. Ralph knew the importance of getting the boys involved in worthwhile endeavors that necessitated hard work and diligence.
He started a small construction company in 1975 that specialized in difficult and uniquely engineered projects. This year, as Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Company celebrates its 30th anniversary, it has grown to be one of the largest and most respected privately owned businesses in Utah, specializing in heavy highway and bridge construction.
The boys all worked hard and learned the construction business with real hands-on experience. Twenty-seven years after the initiation of the company in 2002, Ralph successfully consummated a second generation transfer of the business to five of his seven sons: Con, Tod, Kip, Ty and Nic. Kip presently serves as president and CEO. The other brothers are senior vice presidents of key functional areas of the business.
The legacy Ralph started 30 years ago is very impressive. I visited with Kip about the many award-winning construction projects completed by the company, which include Bangerter Highway, the Salt Palace Expansion, the Winter Sports Park Bobsled and Luge Tracks, many concrete paving, pile-driving and shoring projects, steel erection, and commercial and industrial building construction projects.
As we discussed the company's history, I was interested to learn the construction of the old Valley Music Hall in Davis County and the LDS Washington D.C. Temple are part of the company's portfolio. And today, drivers can identify many of Wadsworth's bridges and freeway interchanges by their concrete murals that tell visual stories of historic events, people and cultural facets of the communities where the projects are located.
Ralph wanted to teach his boys about hard work, integrity and success. He taught them very well! This company is great success story and is a recent 2005 Best of State winner.
For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
