This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Over the years, Salt Lake City patrons have watched Beneficial Life Insurance Company move its downtown headquarters and change its logo at its current location in the ZCMI Center Mall. In fact, the company is now known as Beneficial Financial Group. These changes reflect a dynamic company that has remained financially sound and stable.

Founded in 1905 in Salt Lake City by a trio of adventuresome young businessmen — Lorenzo Stohl, George Stringham and John Stringham — Beneficial is celebrating 100 years of growth and prosperity this year. Its Centennial Celebration will be marked by a number of events, including a Birthday Party on Thursday, June 2 at the Gallivan Center, which all of the community is invited to attend. There will be first-come, first-served gifts for party attendees; a drawing for a free vacation; a live band; entertainment for children; free food from a variety of vendors; and, of course, a slice of birthday cake for all.

Beneficial has good reason to throw such a party. Under the leadership of President and CEO Kent Cannon, the company has achieved record-breaking growth and profits in recent years and has cultivated a reputation as one of the nation's most stable companies. It now has a home office staff of more than 200 employees and more than 650 financial professionals representing the company in 49 states and the District of Columbia. The company has regional offices throughout the Western United States.

The name, Beneficial Financial Group, better reflects the company's expanding products and services, which range from insurance and investment products and estate planning and benefits services to business continuation and executive compensation strategies.

But the essence of the company's mission remains the same as at the time of the company's inception — to be there for individuals and families when they need help most. Given this focus, life insurance remains the company's core product. Thus, 100 years later, Beneficial Financial Group continues the vision and legacy of its founders.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
