This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
People and nations around the globe have contributed a huge outpouring of support for victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami.
In an effort to assist the tsunami victims, many of you have made contributions to organizations involved in the area's humanitarian needs. If I may, let me appeal to you to consider doing just a little bit more.
The Utah Sri Lanka community is small; only a handful of Sri Lankans call Utah their home. However, the human suffering, extreme death toll, and destruction of homes, possessions and businesses in Sri Lanka have devastated them. The tsunami caused unprecedented death and damage to their beautiful country.
The Utah Sri Lanka community needs your support at a special fundraising event on Saturday, February 26 on the 19th Floor of the Wells Fargo Building in Salt Lake City. This event, the Sri Lanka Tsunami Victim's Fund for Children Auction, will begin at 6:00 p.m.
All proceeds from the auction will aid the children of this beleaguered country through UNICEF. Tille Tillekeratne has worked very hard to secure outstanding auction items. Many Utah artists have donated their works to aid in the benefit. Hotel vacation packages, dinners at wonderful restaurants, airline tickets, gift baskets and many other items that will generate interest and support will also be available.
There is no charge to attend this event. The auction's committee wants everyone to come, even if you have not received a formal invitation. Tille can be reached at 485-2769 for more information.
So come to a night dedicated to helping these victims rebuild their lives and their country. The loss of human life is always worthy of our attention, compassion and benevolence.
For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
