This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Over the years, the natural landscape of Moab has attracted many Hollywood filmmakers. While filming on location, all of the cast and crew have to be housed in local hotels. Many stars, such as Robert Duvall, Ted Danson and Thurl Bailey have stayed at the Moab Valley Inn owned by Don Becker and his daughters.

After working for many years as a general contractor, building hotels for Shilo Inn and other large companies, Don decided to build his own hotel. So in 1992 he built the Moab Valley Inn with 75 units. He expanded it in 1993, adding 52 units and a 5,000-square-foot conference center. He also built the first indoor/outdoor pool open year-round in Moab.

Susan Storey, the general manager of the Moab Valley Inn, reports there is great competition for customers between the hotels in Moab. The Inn focuses on making sure each customer enjoys his or her stay. Much of its clientele is made of satisfied customers who return year after year.

As one of the only hotels in the area with a conference center, the Moab Valley Inn hosts many corporate retreats, meetings and conferences. The center can be divided into four separate rooms or configured differently to accommodate events of varying sizes.

The Moab Valley Inn is very involved in the community, frequently supporting local charitable events and organizations. The Inn is the host hotel for events such as the Skinny Tire Festival and Century Tour bike rides that raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. As the host hotel, the Inn lodges many of the participants and provides dinners, registration and other events.

For many years, the Moab Valley Inn has hosted the annual "Puttin' on the Ritz" Fund Raising Dinner & Gala for Seekhaven, an emergency shelter and resource center for the homeless and victims of abuse. This year's fundraiser is on February 12.

For Zions Bank, this is Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
