SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A Texas police chief says the suspect in the shooting of a veteran officer is considered to be "extremely dangerous and a clear threat" to both officers and the public. San Antonio police Chief William McManus says an unknown suspect shot 50-year-old Det. Benjamin Marconi twice in the head while he was writing a ticket in his car this morning. McManus says he does not believe the motorist pulled over had any relationship to the shooter.

CHICAGO (AP) — A judge is denying bail to two teenagers charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Chicago congressman's grandson. The Chicago Tribune reports the 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl appeared before the Cook County Judge James Brown today. Brown called the killing of Rep. Danny Davis' 15-year-old grandson a "total callous disregard for human life. " Javon Wilson was shot Friday following an argument about basketball shoes.

BEIRUT (AP) — The Syrian government is refusing the U.N. envoy's latest proposal for a truce in Aleppo, calling on insurgents to withdraw and saying it would not grant autonomy to the rebel-held east in exchange for calm. Syria's foreign minister says restoring government rule is a matter of "national sovereignty," and that Damascus would not allow the people of eastern Aleppo to be "hostages to 6,000 gunmen."

LIMA, Peru (AP) — President Barack Obama has dodged a question about whether he intends to fire the director of the National Security Agency, saying only that Adm. Mike Rogers is a "terrific patriot.' At a news conference in Lima, Peru, Obama was asked about a recommendation from Defense Secretary Ash Carter and National Intelligence Director James Clapper that Rogers be dismissed. It's unclear exactly why they recommended his ouster.

BEDMINSTER, N.J. (AP) — Donald Trump says his wife, Melania, and their son, Barron, will move to the White House "right after he finishes school" next year. Trump made the remark today at his golf course in New Jersey as he was escorting Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach from a meeting. That meeting was only one of a string of discussions Trump has been having with prospects for posts in his administration.
