AMERICAN FORK — A Utah County city is considering a rule that would expand its jurisdiction over water sources outside its borders.
The American Fork City Council discussed the possibility during a work session Thursday, the Daily Herald reports. An attorney hired by the city to help draft the ordinance says it could give the city more of a say in what happens in American Fork Canyon.
The city's drinking water comes in part from a spring in the canyon. American Fork is hoping to protect the city's water quality as more development occurs in the region.
American Fork has already dealt with water quality concerns this year, including a sediment release into the American Fork River in August that contained heavy metals like lead.
