Chaney's Friday announcement is the first of several internal races beginning to become public as lawmakers prepare to determine who will run both the House and Senate in December.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Interior Secretary Sally Jewell will be in Montana Monday to make an announcement about the conservation of public lands near Yellowstone National Park. The visit comes after Montana elected officials, business owners and environmentalists raised concerns about two gold mining proposals just north of Yellowstone. U.S. Sen. Jon Tester last month asked the Obama administration to block mining in the area by withdrawing 31,400 acres from federal mining and leasing laws.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A 37-year-old Nampa woman is challenging Idaho's laws on artificial insemination, paternity and vital statistics, saying they discriminate against same-sex parents. The Spokesman-Review reports that the lawsuit was filed on behalf of Adela Ayala and her 4-year-old daughter, who is the biological daughter of Ayala's former same-sex partner. Now the estranged partner has no legal relationship to the child.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — State officials say Idaho's unemployment rate has remained at 3.8 percent for the past four months. The Idaho Department of Labor announced Friday that growth in manufacturing, education and health offset jobs shed in national resources, construction and transportation.
