The conflict began on I-215 South, and it carried over to I-15 near 106th South.
Troopers say the driver of a black SUV was under the influence of alcohol. Both he and the driver of a white Mustang were speeding down the freeway.
At some point the cars hit each other, and the black SUV slammed into a concrete barrier.
Lt. Mark Zesiger, Utah Highway Patrol: "The driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected partially from the vehicle and hit along the wall several times."
The driver of the SUV died. A passenger in the Mustang was taken to the hospital. We're still waiting for word on that person's condition.
Meantime, investigators tell us there will likely be charges as a result of this crash.
