RUSTON, La. (AP) — Erik McCree and Jacobi Boykins scored 18 points apiece to help Louisiana Tech cruise to an 87-56 victory over Alabama State on Wednesday night.
McCree and Boykins each shot 7 of 13 from the field. Omar Sherman had 13 points and Derric Jean added 10 for the Bulldogs (1-1), who shot 51 percent from the field.
Mikel Tyson and Torloft Thomas had 12 points each for Alabama State (0-3).
The Bulldogs never trailed and had a double-digit lead with five minutes left in the first half. The Hornets used a 13-5 spurt to pull to 43-31 at halftime, but they did not get closer. McCree scored 13 points and Boykins had eight in the first half.
Louisiana Tech has won eight straight at home, and have not lost a home opener in the Thomas Assembly Center since 2006.
