This is Fred ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Yesterday I told you about Fresenius Medical Care in Ogden. This company has 1,200 dedicated employees at the Ogden plant who provide health, hope and life for thousands of people who suffer from end-stage renal disease.

As I pulled into the parking lot on West 13th St., I was amazed to see the size and scope of the facility. More than 24 acres, as well as more than one million square feet of space in the enclosed area, contain room for production, warehouse, offices and labs. This is a huge facility. The company produces more than 80,000 units each day, which converts to more than 25 million units per year. Quality control is vital, and I watched various inspections occurring along the production line process to guarantee top quality products.

The facility's interior is immaculate, and there was a feeling of pride and dedication emanating from the employees as they explained to me the importance of the products they produce. They acknowledge they're in the business of prolonging life and providing a much higher quality of life for the users of their products.

Fresenius is the third largest employer in Weber County. In 1989, there were 160 employees. Today, there are more than 1,200. Those employees enjoy fine salaries, benefits, training and working conditions. The employees work 12-hour shifts, for three and a half days a week. They seem to enjoy this scheduling, which provides much appreciated time to spend with family or personal hobbies.

The company prides itself on being a good community partner. Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey told me, "Fresenius has been adding jobs while others were downsizing. Their growing company has been as economic anchor in the community not only because of the jobs they create, but also because of their support of the community in areas like our new High Tech Center." Yes, Fresenius Medical Care is a jewel in the Utah business crown.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
