(KSL News) An auto safety group is taking aim at a right of passage for 16-year-olds, calling on states to raise the age for getting a driver's license to 17 or even 18. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is proposing such a plan today.

Research shows the rate of crashes for teens is 10 times the rate of older drivers. As you might expect, many teens and their parents don't support the idea. Even the sponsors acknowledge it's a tough sell, but they say it raises an important dialogue.

Joining us in tonight's Talking Point is Legislator Aaron Tilton of Springville. We asked him to speak with us not only because he's a lawmaker, but also because of a family tragedy; the death of a teenaged niece has made this a personal issue.
