This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
We truly live in an era that thrives because of technology and information. E-mail, Internet sites and Web-based research have all become necessities to the daily affairs of businesses, large and small.
Ronn Hartman, founder and CEO of Readytek Broadband in Kaysville, says he enjoys seeing the look on people's faces when they are able to log on to the Internet for the first time. He loves it when people like his 74-year-old father, who had never used the Internet before, now does all of his banking online at home.
Ronn has worked in the information technology industry for more than 17 years. Along with Readytek Broadband, Ronn also owns and operates a full service information technology company called Ready Technologies. He founded Readytek five years ago to provide rural areas with a high speed Internet connection. The company uses a wireless connection to deliver fast Internet service to areas where cable and DSL connections are not available.
The latest technology that Readytek offers is "Voice over IP." This allows customers to set up a telephone connection using the same wireless Internet connection. Voice over IP offers unlimited local and long distance calling, and allows users to keep their current phone number or choose a new number with any area code they desire. While this service is still relatively new, it is becoming increasingly popular because of the ease, clarity and savings it provides customers.
Because Readytek is able to have a system up and running within a couple of days, it is able to expand rapidly. The company has been growing by about 10 percent each month, now boasting more than 600 customers. Ronn says there are plans to expand into other areas of Utah, as well as Idaho, Wyoming, the U.S. Virgin Islands and South America.
For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
