"Orthodontics for kids of all ages." That's the motto for Dr. John, a most interesting guy. He not only practices dentistry, but is a great marketer and salesman as well.

Dr. John, properly known as Dr. John M. Pobanz, has his main office on Skyline Drive in South Ogden, with other facilities in Pleasant View and Clearfield. When I walked into the waiting room for my interview, I could see that he really has designed his office for the younger crowd. More than 70 percent of his clients are youngsters, but adult patients are steadily increasing. The waiting room features a large, artificial tree in the corner and a big TV screen in the trunk, which shows a variety of youth-oriented videos.

Dr. John had a poster telling about a "Patient Appreciation Skating Party" that was scheduled. The totally free party was for patients, family and friends. It provided pizza and drinks, drawings for prizes, free skates and other free activities. Another poster told patients how they could earn "Dr. John Pesos." Pesos are awarded to patients who do good brushing and have clean teeth. Patients also earn "pesos" for arriving at appointments on time, getting As and Bs on report cards, and for other achievements. "Dr. John Pesos" can be redeemed for all kinds of prizes and awards. See what I mean when I say that Dr. Pobanz is a great marketer?

Straight teeth are not just for the sake of appearance. Dr. John tells me straighter teeth can lead to healthier gums, easier cleanings, improved chewing and speech, decreased risk of dental trauma and abnormal wear, and, of course, a more beautiful smile.

Dr. Pobanz uses a new technique called "Invisalign" that has proven to be effective in both clinical research and practices nationwide. More than 100,000 people are already smiling through this system, which is invisible in the mouth but gradual in helping teeth through a series of custom made, removable and nearly invisible aligners. The procedure is very popular with adults.
