HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Jake Melville passed for 225 yards and rushed for 83 yards with a touchdown to help Colgate beat Holy Cross 26-8 on Saturday.
Colgate (3-4, 2-1 Patriot) more than doubled Holy Cross in total yardage (408-201) and first downs (22-10). The Raiders dominated time of possession with more than a 9-minute advantage, but committed four turnovers.
In the first quarter, Blaise Bell was sacked by Charles Cairnie and fumbled. Pat Afriyie recovered for a touchdown to give Colgate a lead they held all day.
Alex Mathews scored on a 3-yard touchdown run at the start of the fourth to put Colgate up 19-0, and Melville's 30-yard TD run came with 1:39 left.
Jonah Bowman kicked field goals of 42 and 28 yards.
Holy Cross (3-6, 1-3 Patriot) scored on a 5-yard pass from Emmett Clifford to Brendan Flaherty with 35 seconds to go.
