This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

There were 16 million unemployed people in the United States when the depth of the Great Depression hit. It was a time of unprecedented poverty and the aftermath of the prosperous 20s quickly faded. During that time, Lou Callister Sr. graduated from law school and began practicing law as a sole practitioner with his brother-in-law, Vern McCullough, and eventually with his other brother, Ned.

Although it was an unstable time to start any type of business, McCullough & Callister, as it was originally called, planted its feet firmly on the ground and began to establish roots in Salt Lake's community by representing local enterprises.

In 1961, Lou Callister Jr. graduated from law school as well and followed his father's footsteps. Lou the elder encouraged his son to start a full-service law firm.

Today, that firm is called Callister Nebeker & McCullough, one of the premier financial institution and tax and estate planning law firms in the Intermountain West. This firm represents more financial institutions than any other firm in Utah and is known for its expertise in virtually every area of law.

Callister Nebeker & McCullough employs 43 experienced lawyers who understand Utah. The firm prides itself on its legal talent, long-term clients and "substance over appearance" attitude.

I spoke with several lawyers at Callister Nebeker & McCullough who told me the firm is a great place to work. The firm regularly participates in and contributes to community causes and charitable endeavors.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
