Radio fascinates me. Every second, countless radio waves transport an invisible web of music and voices. Just think, right now my voice is being transmitted to you on a radio wave that's traveling 186,000 miles per second! Radio has evolved into quite the medium. It was less than 100 years ago when Reginald Fessenden broadcast the first music ever heard via radio. Since that time, the radio has allowed people worldwide to enjoy their favorite music, news and radio personalities.
Well, Simmons Media Group, founded by Roy Simmons and his family, has been a part of this world of radio for nearly 30 years.
Craig Hanson, president and chief operating officer of Simmons Media Group based in Salt Lake, tells me the company owns and operates a total of 12 radio stations in Utah, Texas, Idaho and New Mexico.
Not only is Simmons Media Group involved in radio, but it also has an expanding outdoor advertising company, Simmons Outdoor Media, as well as an interest in Morris Murdock Travel.
Craig tells me the company's mission is to create value for the communities it serves by giving back, in economic value, at least as much as the company earns.
As a result, Simmons Media Group annually donates millions in public service announcements, volunteer labor and sponsorships to numerous charities and organizations.
Craig tells me Simmons Media Group is very proud of its accomplishments, but believes the best is yet to come. Craig says the company is aware that people in the community have given them their trust, which is why he says one of the company's primary goals is to safeguard that trust and exceed the public's expectations in every way.
