CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming's Department of Workforce Services says outstanding fines for workplace health and safety violations are far lower that initially reported by the federal government.
Department director John Cox said in a Monday statement the figure is just over $557,000 — not $4.5 million as cited in a U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health report.
Cox says Wyoming verified the lower figure with OSHA. The dollar amounts correspond to a 2009-to-2014 time frame.
Cox says OSHA issued nearly $5 million in penalties and collected $4.4 million of those fines.
Fines collected from penalties assessed by Wyoming's Occupational Safety and Health Administration go to school districts.
