PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) — Florida police officers linked arms with bystanders to pull a driver from in a burning car.

The Orlando Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2ekvuMJ ) the man's car collided with another vehicle and plowed down a steep embankment Sunday morning.

The car caught fire, and Palm Bay police officers rushed to free the driver.

Video of the rescue showed bystanders linking arms to help the officers pull the driver through thick brush up to the road.

Police said the driver became combative during the rescue and had to be handcuffed before he was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported in the collision or the rescue.

Palm Bay spokeswoman Karyn Barber said the outcome could have been much worse "if it weren't for all the bystanders that helped."
