MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Quinterris Toppings threw for 155 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score as Alabama State downed Mississippi Valley State 56-24 on Saturday.
Khalid Thomas ran for a career-best 150 yards and a score for the Hornets (2-5, 2-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference).
Thomas scored a touchdown on the Hornets first drive and Topping ran for another score to put Alabama State up 14-3 early in the second quarter. Toppings threw a 19-yard score to Willis White to make it 21-10 and Rob Pritchett ran 13 yards for another touchdown to give the Hornets a 28-10 lead at halftime.
In the third, Alex Anderson scored a 17-yard run and backup quarterback Ju Young-Battle — who replaced Toppings early in the second half — threw a 48-yard touchdown to Marlon Archer to make it 42-10 with 47 seconds left in the period.
Slade Jarman threw for 139 yards and a touchdown for the Delta Devils (0-7. 0-5).
