This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

"A need for speed" prompted the beginning of a great Ogden company called Edge Products. A young Ogden businessman with a degree in fluid dynamics and a great engineering background loved speed and the exhilaration of feeling a strong engine.

The young man teamed with his cousin who had a good business background, and together, they started Edge Products, a company that uses engineering and technology to increase torque and power of diesel engines. What a powerful duo!

When I arrived for my appointment, I fully expected to see a greasy garage. Instead, I walked into an immaculate, high-tech facility near Ogden's old Defense Depot. Paul Lehman, president of Edge Products, greeted me and then explained the fascinating story of this rapidly growing, nationally known and respected company.

Edge Products is in the business of developing after-market diesel engine and fuel injection enhancements. Its products provide more torque, more horsepower and more miles per gallon for trucks, vans and RVs. After using Edge Products, owners can tow a boat or a trailer with less effort and more power.

It was fascinating to see how this company has evolved from its early beginnings. Paul showed me the new, high-tech circuit board assembly equipment and the new oven that completes the very sophisticated electronic components. What a contrast to the early tools Paul has kept from the start-up phase of his company! It was like comparing a DC-3 airplane with an F-16 jet.

Edge Products had two new beautiful pickup trucks in its testing shops. The trucks were sitting on sophisticated equipment that allow the wheels to turn as if they were traveling at very high speeds on the open road. The sophisticated circuit boards were then tested to gain maximum torque, power and efficiency. It was an amazing experience!

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
