BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are asking for the public's help in finding more than two dozen handguns stolen from a pawn shop.
About 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Pawn Depot, 613 S. 500 West, in Bountiful, was burglarized. Based on surveillance video, investigators believe there were at least two people involved, said ATF spokeswoman Lisa Meiman. She said there was forced entry into the business, but she declined to specify how the alleged burglars got inside.
More than two dozen handguns were stolen. Meiman did not know if any other items were taken from the pawn shop.
Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of those involved.
Anyone with information can call the ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (1-800-283-4867) or Bountiful police at 801-298-6000. Tips can also be given through ATF’s new “reportit” app available at reportit.com, Google Play and the Apple app store. All tips can be anonymous.
In 2015, 17 firearms were stolen from licensed firearms dealers, Meiman said, compared to 71 in 2014. She said there wasn't any one factor that accounted for the difference in numbers, just that they fluctuate each year.
