SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A former West High School guidance counselor who admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student was sentenced to serve three consecutive one-to-15-year terms in the Utah State Prison.
Marco R. Herrera, 53, pleaded guilty in April in 3rd District Court to three second-degree felony counts of forcible sexual abuse. Judge Vernice Trease ordered Herrera Wednesday to serve consecutive prison terms.
Before he was fired for the sex allegations, Herrera had been a counselor at Salt Lake City's West High School for 24 years.
Charging documents say between April and June 2007, Herrera had sex with the girl at least three times.
