This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

I recently visited with Rob Vandenberg, CEO of LocalVoice, a member management software firm that relocated to Utah from San Francisco two years ago. When I asked Rob why he decided on Utah, he said, "This is the place" -- the place where he could build long-term relationships for a long-term company.

LocalVoice is located near The Gateway in an old brick building with a San Francisco flare, which makes Rob feel more at home. But Rob says Utah feels like home more and more every day because LocalVoice is beginning to find its local niche. Rob tells me Utah's per capita of college grads -- especially in electrical and computer engineering -- is high, the work force is Internet savvy and Utah is ranked nationally in the top ten for households with access to the Internet. This is definitely the place for Rob's company!

LocalVoice works with independent schools, universities, associations and other member-supported organizations to build and manage lasting member relationships.

The Member Relationship Management software platform provides an efficient and affordable way to increase member participation, involvement and revenue. From membership communities and e-mail marketing campaigns to event registration and membership renewals, LocalVoice's software is a unique way for organizations to manage information and involvement. This online gathering place allows members to exchange information, personalize outreach efforts and build participation.

I found it fascinating when Rob told me the average American belongs to at least four member supportive-type organizations. By fostering an open dialogue among members and lowering overall costs, these organizations can focus their efforts in areas that will do the most good. According to Rob, LocalVoice's personal touch to the online arena has proven to increase the chances of maintaining and recruiting members by 40 percent.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
