I don't know if there is a prettier site in Utah than the Midway Valley. Those early Swiss settlers really knew what they were doing when they started a "little bit of Switzerland" in Wasatch County. And one of the great treasures of Midway is the Blue Boar Inn. It is nestled in the Wasatch Mountains at the base of Snake Creek Canyon, surrounded by the finest seasonal recreation in the state.
The Blue Boar Inn is a European style 14-room bed and breakfast. I had frequently admired the spectacular design, architecture and location of the Inn as I played at the Homestead Golf Course. I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a deluxe tour of the impressive facility.
Jay and Sandy Niederhauser are the innkeepers. They were so gracious as they took me into each room and described in detail the antique furniture, the artwork and the various room amenities. Each room is named after a literary notable. For example, the Ralph Waldo Emerson suite has an antique canopy queen bed, mountain and golf course view sitting areas, a European hand carved armoire, a European featherbed, river rock gas fireplace, and a jetted tub and separate shower. It really was beautifully done.
Jay and Sandy were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about each room in the facility. I was impressed as Jay showed me an imported "kachelofen" stove that sits in a prominent spot in the main dining room. The restaurant has become extremely popular for inn guests as well as people from Wasatch, Summitt and Salt Lake Counties who love the food provided by executive chef David Kratky, as well as the service and atmosphere.
While I was there a young couple were busy finalizing their wedding pans. Weddings are performed outside in the gazebo and the Inn provides all of the experience and expertise to make weddings and receptions a most memorable experience.
