If you were to bump into Bill Dutro in Logan and say, "Hi Bill. How's business?" He would probably respond, "Which one?" Which one indeed. Bill Dutro is a great Cache County citizen who employs a great many people and infuses millions of dollars into the State of Utah and into the Logan community.
Bill has four different successful businesses in Logan. The original Dutro business involvement started in 1945 in Emeryville, California. The Dutro family began by manufacturing material handling equipment. They quickly established a reputation for very high quality, great integrity and the highest of business standards.
When I was told I was going to tour the Dutro plant in Logan and watch the manufacturing of hand trucks, I thought I knew a great deal about hand trucks. I had spent 17 years in the trucking business and had seen plenty of them.
Well, NEVER did I expect to see such a variety of material handling gear. I saw some of the most futuristic and technically advanced hand trucks that you could imagine. One was called the Big and Brawny Brute. This is a special series of trucks for video games and vending machines. It is indeed a "brute." It will move up to 1800 pounds. The large rear wheels pivot back to handle big loads and is designed for use with items that are over 72" tall.
But there are dozens of different products in the line. There are special trucks for warehouse and delivery use. There are appliance trucks, beverage trucks, service carts, stocking tubular carts, salesman and utility trucks, and units to handle drum and cylinders. I'm certain that whatever a company needs to move or handle, Dutro has exactly the right piece of equipment.
