This is Fred Ball for Zion's Bank, speaking on business.

You've heard of Jared Fogle, haven't you, the Subway Celebrity? Dark hair, 6'2" tall, with slimmed-down build — he's the one who lost 245 pounds eating almost nothing but Subway sandwiches, the one who invented the so-called "Jared Diet." Well, Salt Lakers are in for a real treat because on September 13, Jared will be at the Gallivan Center, representing Subway at the American Heart Association's Salt Lake City Heart Walk!

Part of an annual 5K walk in more than 750 cities across America, the American Heart Walk was organized to raise funds for important research and education programs. The walks have raised more than $216 million to fight against our nation's #1 and #3 killers -- heart disease and stroke. And for Jared, this is a critical event to help people realize they do not live have to live with the pain and suffering of obesity, like he did.

It's been an important summer for Jared and the Subway restaurants. If you can believe it, Subway now has more locations in the United States and Canada than even McDonald's has. As a matter of fact, only a few weeks ago, Subway opened its 150th location in Utah in the Fashion Place Mall food court.

Logan Hunter, president of Hunter Management Company, the largest local Subway franchise in the state, said that "Subway has been in the right place at the right time to offer Utah consumers a fresh, healthy fast food alternative." You can say that again, Logan. Imagine — if you ate lunch at a different Subway everyday, it would take five months to visit all of the Subways in Utah.

Subway's growth in our area, beginning with the first store which opened in Orem in 1981, and expanding to 150 stores in just 22 years, is a significant accomplishment! The local success mirrors the chain's popularity across the nation.

Congratulations to Subway on the opening of its 150th location in Utah!

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
