This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

This summer Zions Bank is sponsoring a series of Small Business Celebrations. The purpose of the celebrations is to honor the vision and creativity of the many small business owners in Utah, and to introduce their unique businesses to the public.

The next Small Business Celebration takes place this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the intersection of 15th East and 15th South in Sugarhouse. It's a fantastic opportunity for people to experience the neighborhood's marvelous selection of shops and restaurants.

In the days leading up to the event, I'd like to tell you about a few of the businesses that you'll find there. The Dog Show for example, which provides dog and cat grooming services, has been in the area for nearly 15 years. I spoke with one of the owners, Don Steward. Don is a native of New Zealand and was raised on a sheep farm where he came in contact with specially trained working dogs. His partner, Dick Dotson, is equally experienced, having worked as a groomer and professional dog handler for more than 30 years.

Don credits a big part of the company's success to its low turnover rate of employees. In other words, groomers at the Dog Show are experienced. They know their clients and their clients' pets. They're also familiar with the Utah environment. Whether it's a hike in the Uintahs or a camping trip in Moab, groomers at the Dog Show give customers some valuable advice: like where to expect porcupines and skunks, and which plants are dangerous. It's the kind of service, says Don, customers don't usually receive in the era of "big box pet superstores."

The Dog Show will be open during the Small Business Celebration this Saturday, and employees will be on hand to share advice and answer questions. As part of the event, many of the businesses in the area will offer special discounts to all their customers.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
