Tonya Papanikolas ReportingThe heightened security is affecting airports and travelers all over the country, including here at Salt Lake International. If you're flying out of Salt Lake today, airport officials are asking people to get there two hours early to make sure you have no problems.
You can take carry-on bags on the plane, but you need to be aware of what you can pack in them. All over the airport, signs are letting people know what is prohibited. You can put anything in your checked baggage, but your carry-on is another story.
Passengers are not allowed to take anything on the plane that consists of a liquid or gel. That includes beverages, shampoo, shaving cream, toothpaste or even makeup.
Early morning passengers who weren't aware of the rules were having to go through their bags and throw a lot of these items away.
Rob Wells, Airline Traveler: "Desitin and sunscreen and hand sanitizer, all that good stuff went."
Lynette Andeen, Airline Traveler: "I had to take all my lip gloss out of my purse and put it in my suitcase and just check it."
Rob Eldridge, Airline Traveler: "You just have to plan ahead, get to the airport early enough."
Most of the passengers realized the delays were for a good reason. Security lines were a little longer than usual, though they really weren't too extreme.
The airport told us they don't know how long these changes will be in effect.
One thing to note, you are allowed to take baby formula and prescription medicine on the plane. But that prescription has to be in your name.
