THIS IS MICHAEL DE GROOTE FROM THE SALT LAKE CHAMBER, WITH YOUR METRO BUSINESS REPORT

The Salt Lake Chamber’s Board of Governors chose a new President and CEO. Lane Beattie, who currently heads the state’s Olympic Office, becomes President of the Chamber on July 1st. Craig Peterson has acted as Interim President since Larry Mankin resigned last October. The new Chamber President served in the Utah State Senate beginning in 1989. Lane was Senate Majority Whip and Majority Leader and was President of the Senate from June 1994 until he stepped down in June of 2000 when Governor Leavitt appointed him as State Olympic Officer. In that position, Lane coordinated the legal, financial, and inter-government arrangements for Utah's hosting of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. His responsibilities also included the planning of extensive post-Olympics trade missions to promote the state around the world and the preparation for the one-year Olympic anniversary celebration in 2003. He is a real estate broker and developer by trade. Lane and his wife Joy have three children and three grandchildren. His hobbies include golf, skiing, and raising quarter horses.

There is a special open house tonight at the City and County Building from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to showcase the design concepts for the new United States Salt Lake City Federal District Courthouse.

Powermen Electric recently upgraded their business structure and licensing to include commercial as well as residential electrical contracting.
