As soon as I walked into the Lazy Daisy Cottage in St. George I was impressed with Dana Brooks, the owner. Her zest for life and enthusiasm about her new business radiates as you approach the front door with a walkway lined by planted daisies.
The Lazy Daisy is a quilt shop along with homespun cottage gifts. Classes are offered to quilters of all skill levels. The bolts and bolts of fabric, racks of patterns, and quilts displayed are a visual treat for everyone young and old. There are several rooms filled with displays and ideas that seem endless. There is also a cozy classroom with quilts and other project ideas ready for you to create.
Although the owner dreamed of the Lazy Daisy for several years, it finally came to be in February of this year. With her children grown and with the help of her husband's construction skills, the time was right and the Lazy Daisy Cottage was a dream come true.
The store is located in Historical St. George. It was W.O. Bentley's home and was the original property of Orson Pratt. The records indicate the home was built in about 1906, although the old adobe walls represent a much older home, maybe in the late 1800s. Dana and her husband Daryl, who is a General Contractor, purchased the home late in 2002. They did their best to preserve the historical original design and improve on the much needed care of the woodwork. I was impressed with the old original antique hutch in the main room and other fine craftsmanship.
The Lazy Daisy Cottage was filled with an inviting aroma and a feeling that generated enthusiasm. The cozy atmosphere and cherished family heirlooms make for lasting memories. The quilting industry is growing and Dana's passion for quilting and its legacy are found in every corner. The Lazy Daisy Cottage generates new ideas while creating long lasting friendships.
