American crooner TONY BENNETT aspires to be as well known as a painter as he is for his music career.
The 80-year-old has already seen his work exhibited in Washington, DC's prestigious Smithsonian American Art Museum but refuses to lay down his brush until his notoriety has grown.
The I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO singer even takes his paints on tour and will publish a second volume of his work next year (07).
Bennett's son and manager DANNY says, "Tony is not a Sunday painter and never has been. And the same integrity that we apply to his music career, we do with his art: We're very, very careful.
"His ambition is to be known as a painter as well as a musician, and he will be, I think, in his lifetime, because he's as serious about art as he is music. He doesn't want to make wallpaper or JERRY GARCIA ties." (SH/WNWR/GES)
