SEATTLE (AP) — Donald Trump has been under pressure to clarify where he stands on the finer points of illegal immigration, and today he'll deliver a much-anticipated speech on the issue. But before that speech, Trump travels to Mexico to meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto. Trump has said that the estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. illegally should be deported, but recently he told Hispanic supporters that he might be open to changing his approach.
RODANTHE, N.C. (AP) — Hawaii's Big Island is preparing for the first hurricane to make landfall in years. The National Weather Service says Hurricane Madeline is expected to pass just south of the Big Island early Thursday. On North Carolina's Outer Banks, forecasters expect up to 5 inches of heavy rain as a tropical weather system blows by. But the storm is not expected to surpass tropical-storm strength before it curves out to sea.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Republican Sen. Marco Rubio has easily won the Republican nomination to retain his seat in Tuesday's primary. He'll be challenged by Democratic U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, who defeated Congressman Alan Grayson in the primary. In Arizona, Sen. John McCain beat back a primary challenge from a Republican tea party activist to win the right to seek a sixth term in November.
TOKYO (AP) — The mileage scandal at Mitsubishi Motors is widening after the Japanese government ordered sales halted on eight more models in which mileage was falsely inflated by as much as nearly 9 percent. The Japanese automaker acknowledged in April that it systematically falsified mileage data on its eK wagon and eK Space minicars, also produced for Nissan. No overseas models are affected.
SYDNEY (AP) — A British man who died after trying to save the life of a woman killed in a stabbing attack in Australia is being nominated for a national bravery award. Thomas Jackson died yesterday from wounds he sustained while trying to stop an attack on a British woman last week. Police accuse 29-year-old Smail Ayad, of France, of stabbing Mia Ayliffe-Chung to death in front of dozens of backpackers at a hostel in Queensland state.
